Oh Traffic....

I was driving home from Oakland last Saturday in a crazy amount of traffic thinking "Who are all of these people and where are they all going?" and "I hate hate hate the traffic in the Bay area" - feeling more and more frustrated about well over one and a half hours in the car (and vowing to take BART from now on every chance I get)...
Meanwhile, I needed to do some watering at the Little Red Hen and St. Aidan's gardens, and decided to attempt to wash away my traffic frustration with the beauty of living things.  While I was watering the new St. Aidan's garden plantings, I realized that I had never posted the names of the plants one by one.....so here they are.  We're going to have wonderful colors in the garden and already the weeds are loving the new compost!  Which is fine....
And we even had rain today ---- a little --- what a blessing.....

Veggies and Herbs for Open Cathedral

Our latest harvest from the garden has gone to Betty Jerez from St. Aidan’s, who is one of the mainstays of Open Cathedral at 16th and Mission every Thursday evening.  Betty and a few other faithful volunteers cook a hot meal for the 80-100 people who attend the service.  We donated mint, chard and parsley for this week’s meal – soon our potatoes and other veggies will be ready to support this beautiful ministry.

On Friendship and Gardens

A bit of a belated post from before the July 4 holiday......
My friend Kris and I met at the Free Farm, and we've been friends ever since.   We found that we shared a passion for labyrinths and then my dog Zilly fell in love with her (and trust me, he doesn't fall for everyone!)  We've been working together on the St. Mark's garden ever since the Free Farm closed - Kris lives next door and she does the heavy lifting - Zilly and I help along the way.  When I have projects at St. Aidan's Kris and her mom Roxie are always there to help.  Our latest St. Mark's harvest became part of a wonderful salad for Diamond Diners at St. Aidan's on the July 4 themed lunch.....Anyway, as I was looking at photos this morning, I thought about how appreciative I am of friendship and gardens and our earth.
