To be honest, I think I might not be very good at thinning the little carrot seedlings (it's so hard!) - I think I preached about thinning things in one of my sermons some time ago.

![]() I have mentioned to some of my fellow gardeners that I better not quit my day job to become a carrot farmer because - well, even though I plant all of the carrots at the same time (I think...) they end up in such different sizes and shapes! This is my latest harvest, which shows this carrot diversity in all its glory. Today was a great garden Saturday for me - starting at the St. Mark's garden with my friend Kris (and a grand harvest of bok choy and potatoes) -- and continuing at Little Red Hen with lots of carrots and greens. Everything will go to the Free Farm Stand tomorrow.....
We had lovely rain this weekend, which made the garden happy. Lots of greens and a few carrots and strawberries to harvest (amidst the weeds, who also love the rain!) - all were delivered to the Free Farm Stand. When I delivered the harvest, I saw a friend from the Free Farm who I hadn't seen in a long time, which was a wonderful part of my Saturday. It made me thankful for the gardens that bring us together.
This past Sunday, May 1, we had a wonderful party at St. Mark's garden. The party was announced at St. Mark's Lutheran church, at Martin Luther Towers, and on Facebook. It was a gorgeous day and we had a big crowd! We gave away 80 flowers in small pots, as well as veggies harvested from the garden. Pastor Elizabeth, Kris Iverson and I planned the day together - perhaps we have a future as garden party planners! Slide show below.....Thank you to everyone who joined us in honoring the garden and celebrating creation on May Day. |
