Tomorrow is Tommy Dillon's last Sunday at St. Aidan's and I was thinking about the first time I really spent time with Tommy. It was several years ago (long before I became a Deacon), when Page and I were wandering around talking with people about our crazy idea of getting gardens going at churches in SF. Tommy was supportive and excited about our plans, and in that intuitive and sensitive way that is "so Tommy," he seemed to know that connecting with creation and giving food to others was central to our spiritual lives. We got going on the gardens, and it was such a gift - years later - to have my first placement as Deacon to be with Tommy. Tommy has fostered our garden at St. Aidan's and at the Little Red Hen community garden, and in so many other ways has supported me as a new Deacon. I was thinking about all of this when I harvested at our garden today - including our first beet of the season. So - much love to you Tommy, and in deep gratitude always.
