I haven't posted about the St. Mark's garden in a while. It's thriving, and Saturday was a beautiful January day for gardening. We have kale coming along, carrots, potatoes, lettuces, new basil, lemons and apples. I dropped produce off at Western Park Apartments for the seniors there - a group of them used to volunteer at the Free Farm when it was operating and we still keep in touch. Happy MLK day to all.

We had great lettuces and greens for Diamond Diners, our senior lunch program, this week - as well as lemons donated from a friend's tree. Even in winter, and right in the middle of such a challenging and dark week for our country, much bounty and light......
There are so many wonderful holiday decorations around San Francisco....here's a slide show of some of my favorites. Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and Christmas. Here's to looking forward with joy to 2021...... I'm so struck by how very bright the colors in nature are in SF at this time of the year. I think it's something about winter light here in CA.....Anyway, a few of my recent favorites...
On a walk yesterday I noticed a totally amazing decorated garden – it’s at the Corbin stairs in Eureka Valley (between 7th St and Corbett Ave.) I took a few photos (they don’t really do it justice – I highly recommend seeing it in person…) Someone has done a really extraordinary job of creating a creative and magical holiday garden. I particularly thought that this would be a great place for children to visit! A perfect place to spend time looking for little figurines and unexpected pieces of holiday joy...
This is a belated post to share the bounty for Diamond Diners in December. Golden Bridges School, which used to be at St. Aidan's, came in like angels with an amazing harvest from their school garden. I heard from their director, Abbie, just as I was pondering what to do about the fact that I was "between" harvests at the Little Red Hen garden. Thanks to Golden Bridges, we had a great contribution for the seniors at Diamond Diners!
I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving by sharing some Thanksgiving colors, decorations, etc. that I've seen around my neighborhood in SF. I think there are more home decorations around town this year compared to prior years - a small light coming from COVID times, perhaps. All holiday best... We have some great new additions in the St. Aidan's garden along Diamond Heights Blvd. - from a parishioner moving from a lovingly-tended garden. It will be great to see how these new plants settle in and continue to create beauty and places for hummingbirds and bees to linger in our busy city. Welcome to St. Aidan's new plants!
A bit belated, but a few highlights from SF, where the Halloween decor was out in force this year. (And a garden photo too.....) Happy All Saints day too......
